4. Artificial intelligence

Artificial Intelligence brief

As artificial intelligence continues to grow many people jump back and forth between being a supporter and being a critic. Most see artificial intelligence as a way for bad parties to trick people into thinking that something is true. The term ‘Seeing Is Believing’ rings true for most people and when a video is edited or manipulated it can cause a person to deeply believe that something is true, even when it is not. This leads to a person feeling manipulated, misinformed, and a growing lack of trust in all information.

These videos fabricated by AI can seem very realistic and can make it seem like people are saying or doing things they may have never did. This is particularly a problem when it comes to government officials and celebrities. These fake videos have the power to influence elections and unrest amongst the public. An example of this was seen in November of 2025, when AI generated videos began circulating on TikTok that depicted a "mass surrender" of Ukrainian soldiers against Russian forces. The videos came with captions that made it seem like Ukraine was "losing the war" and that military assistance was no longer needed. It was determined that these videos were created in an attempt to hinder moral amongst Ukrainians and allies. Ultimately Ukraine's Center for Countering Disinformation reported that the video was false and that the videos did not accurately reflect the situation in Pokrovsk.

It seems as though videos manipulated by AI have been used to carry out more damage and harassment than good. The repercussions of these videos are very impactful. They can cause severe personal and professional harm, psychological distress, long-term reputational damage. In a Baltimore high school, in 2025 where a high school's sports director created a fake video of the school's principle making racist comments. Later in court the principal, Eric Eiswert, stated "My life was forever changed. I'm slowly rebuilding my career, but this experience will never leave me." Eiswert went on to state how he and his family were brutally harassed. There was even a point where a patrol car had to be posted outside of their home. In the end the athletic director, Dazhon Darien, was sentenced to four months in prison after taking a plea deal.

However, with the bad also comes the good. Artificial intelligence in videos has led to many new benefits in video production, distribution, and accessibility. AI allows those that are hearing-impaired to receive fast and accurate captions and subtitles. AI can help translate multiple languages allowing content to reach globally. AI can also help inside the classroom. It can create training simulations, personalized learning videos, interactive tutorials, and more.

In conclusion, artificial intelligence has the power to cause great harm, but it also has the potential to do good. It is important to always take every bit of content on social media with a grain of salt until it is verified by a reliable source. While this can cause a bit of stress and a headache it is important to always air on the side of caution when viewing videos posted on social media.
